David Swallow, Jr. (Wowita Uha Mani), of the Crazy Horse band of Teton Lakota, is a Wicasa Wakan (holy man), Sun Dance intercessor, and Head Man on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Educated by his ancestors in Lakota history, culture, and spiritual ways, Mr. Swallow is a veteran AIM (American Indian Movement) member, having participated in major acts of resistance, including the 1973 Wounded Knee Occupation, and the 2016 Standing Rock Water Protectors Defensive. Now an elder linking past with future, in company with Medicine Woman Nyla Helper, Swallow speaks to contemporary audiences across the globe about Lakota lands, sacred narratives, star knowledge, and prophecy.
