Karl Evangelista's Bukas (Tagalog for "Tomorrow") - San Francisco
Overview
On May 27- RRS Lecturer Karl Evangelista will premiere "Bukas" (Tagalog for "Tomorrow"), a brand-new work that explores the intersection between intergenerational resistance and revolutionary music. "Bukas" combines elements of jazz, contemporary composition, and spoken word to outline histories in radical Black and Asian art.
For this special occasion, Karl will be joined by legendary drummer Andrew Cyrille, SFSU's Francis Wong, and locals Lewis Jordan, Lisa Mezzacappa, and Rei Scampavia.
